Bereavement Training for Secondary Schools

An offer to schools for the immediate future considering the current situation and early promotion for the full-day sessions bereavement workshops from September 2020
Specified outcomes of training:
- an understanding of local and national data
- methodology of bereavement and stages of grieving
- an understanding how behaviour may be impacted in school
- knowledge of the practical ways to help bereaved CYP
- knowledge of the practical ways to support CYP experiencing loss due to COVID-19
- a good understanding of local and national support services
- support provided to group and Q&A
Day session
The workshops will provide schools with a comprehensive understanding of bereavement in CYP aged 11-16 years. Schools will feel confident in their ability to recognise, support, signpost and refer CYP that are having difficulties following a death or illness of a loved one.
Individuals that attended the introduction sessions can attend the full day workshops if they wish. Attendance on the introduction sessions are not a pre-requisite for full day workshop attendance.
Specified outcomes of training:
- Understand and apply the 'duel process model'
- Have a good knowledge of the '10 things that children need'
- Understand barriers to support
- knowledge of the practical ways to help bereaved CYP
- knowledge of the practical ways to support CYP experiencing loss due to COVID-19
- Gain confidence in supporting bereaved CYP through practical scenarios
- Encourage and facilitate the better use of school resource when support bereaved CYP
- Have an awareness in the importance of recognising the school as a support mechanism
- Have a good understanding of local and national support services and how/when to refer
- Any other outcomes the provider wishes to include
