Social Media, Body Image & Self Esteem Training

Social Media, Body Image & Self Esteem Training

Date: Wed, 23rd Oct 2019, 09:30 - 15:30

Venue: Beaumanor Hall, Woodhouse

Research is in the very early stages of being developed around the links between these
three pressing topics. However, what we do know is that media in general can have a
dramatic impact on the way young people view themselves, distorted body image and
low self-esteem, potentially resulting in developing unhealthy relationships and coping
strategies. With the majority of young people now living their lives through social media
and an online audience, it is essential for schools to be able to teach the importance of
using this in a correct, safe way but also vital for settings to be aware of how to support
any negative issues around body image and self-esteem as early as possible when they
arise.

By the end of this workshop you will:

  • Learn how media and social media can influence how we see ourselves
  • Become aware of how images are changed to look more appealing
  • Gain knowledge of the pros and cons of social media and how to manage this
  • Understand the theory behind Self-Compassion and Self-esteem
  • Look at resources and gain new ideas for positive body-image and self-esteem boosting activities
  • Learn how to support young people to address any difficulties and feel more positive and kinder towards themselves
  • Help them to identify their inner strengths and skills
  • Gain information on who to signpost families to for further help if needed
