Mandatory RSHE for Primary Schools

Delivering RSHE isn't easy for everyone, this training offers a comprehensive introduction to help teachers develop the confidence, knowledge and skills to plan and deliver good quality relationships and sexual health education. Delivered in the context of primary aged children.

Brook has been commissioned by Leicestershire County Council to deliver a tiered RSHE support programme for primary and secondary schools in Leicestershire and Rutland. Through this localised and tailored training offer, Brook will support schools to deliver high quality and holistic statutory RSHE, in line with the DfE guidance, increase the skills and confidence of teachers and help meet the needs of young people locally.

Brook is the UK's leading sexual health and wellbeing charity for young people and for over 55 years, we have supported, educated and empowered young people to make informed decisions about their sexual health, relationships and wellbeing. We have used this experience to inform our training packages and provide teachers with the knowledge and tools to deliver effective RSHE.

Delivery of the programme be undertaken by a team of Brook Education & Wellbeing Specialists, who are highly skilled, knowledgeable and experienced in delivering RSHE and PSHE to young people as well as teachers and professionals.

By the end of this training participants will;

• be able to describe ways in which the individual and social context of young people's lives indicate the need for inclusive RSHE

• recognise the impact of personal and professional values on RSHE delivery

• have clarified/acquired professional values which support the delivery of effective RSHE

• be able to describe the range of topics to be covered in a spiral RSHE curriculum which meets mandatory requirements

• be able to describe different teaching structures to deliver RSHE

• be able to create a safe learning environment for students and setting clear boundaries

• recognise the importance of a whole school approach to RSHE and the importance of providing support to young people outside the classroom
