SUICIDE & SELF-HARM AWARENESS – Free training for School Staff
This online Zoom session will help to raise awareness of an issue that may affect some students/pupils. We hope this free training will be of interest to any member of a school's staff who wishes to raise their awareness, examine their own attitudes, and discuss the issue of suicide and self-harm with colleagues from other schools. It is suitable for anyone interested in the issue, whatever the current level of knowledge or previous experience. The content of the training includes:
- What is self-harm? – attitudes towards, and discussion about, the subject matter
- Risk factors for suicide and self-harm, based on research and population data
- Warning signs – what to look out for in individuals
- Individual case studies / Discussion exercises
- Protective factors / Resilience / How can we help? / How can schools help?
The training is delivered by the RCC, a key partner in the local Start A Conversation suicide prevention campaign, and facilitated by Keith Waters, Honorary Research Fellow (Self-harm and Suicide Prevention) and lead investigator with the Multicentre Study of Self-harm in England.. The format of the training is a mixture of presentation and discussion. This awareness training is open to all interested school staff. However, places are limited so advance booking is essential. A web link to join the session via Zoom will be emailed to participants the day before each training session.
