Politics & Campaign Update

The Sex Education Forum has today written to the new Secretary of State for Education, Justine Greening to welcome her in her new post and urging her to take swift action in committing to making SRE a requirement in all primary and secondary schools.

In her role as the International Development Secretary Justine Greening supported education about sexual and reproductive health and rights overseas. The new Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, was outspoken about her support for statutory SRE in 2012. The new Prime Minister, Theresa May is also thought to have been supportive of SRE during, according to an article in the Telegraph in February.
In the light of these developments I am again reviewing our campaign plans with our Advisory Group and will keep you updated.

Twenty questions about SRE

In the meantime you might enjoy this article and 20 question quiz about SRE, which we have put together for the Independent. The article highlights a new report from the Terrence Higgins Trust, which was effective in highlighting the gaps in SRE this week.
