For pupils to feel safe to learn it is vital that they develop core relationship values and skills and have an age-appropriate understanding of family diversity, human sexuality and gender identity. Schools’ actions to address prejudice-based bullying are also something that Ofsted may ask about.
This one day training is an opportunity for SRE and PSHE leads / teachers from schools across the county to develop their SRE practice and in particular to develop confidence and competence to address HBT bullying in primary schools.

The training will be interactive and experiential in style, providing an opportunity to reflect on values and attitudes, gain knowledge, develop skills and share experience with colleagues. Participants will:
• Consider the need for SRE in primary/secondary school to address HBT bullying
• Identify how particular issues such as family diversity, prejudice and use of language in relation to gender and sexual orientation can be addressed within a planned programme of SRE
• Assess the value of a selection of resources to support teaching on these issues
• Clarify knowledge of relevant legislation and requirements for SRE, PSHE and a whole-school approach which addresses HBT bullying
• Develop understanding of the role of LGBT inclusive SRE in a whole-school approach to addressing HBT bullying.

The training will be facilitated by the Sex Education Forum. Booking will be on a first come first serve basis with up to two free places available per school. Group size will be 16 maximum.
