Education Select Committee Inquiry into SRE/PSHE

Education Select Committee Inquiry into SRE/PSHE

On Wednesday 17 December, DfE Minister, Nick Gibb, gave evidence in the final session of the inquiry. He did not agree there was a need for statutory status. However he did make clear that SRE is very important and that all schools are expected to teach SRE and PSHE. He also gave unequivocal support for the Supplementary Advice – SRE for the 21st century, published by the Sex Education Forum Brook and PSHE Association, citing it as high quality, very good advice that would help schools deliver excellent SRE.

You can watch the full evidence session on this link.

You can download the Sex Education Forum's guidance on how parents, teachers and pupils can be involved in the process of reviewing and updating their school's SRE policy.

This guidance was commissioned by Leicestershire County Council's Public Health Department to ensure that academies, free schools and maintained schools are all up to speed with best practice.

The guidance and consultation activities for use with parents, staff and pupils at Key Stages 2, 3, and 4 to complement the guidance can be downloaded from the link on our website here.
