Self validation
In order for schools to achieve National Healthy School Status they must have met national criteria across the four core themes using the whole school approach. In autumn 2006 the process of self validation was introduced to minimise the bureaucracy on schools wanting to apply for National Healthy Schools Status. This means that schools now self certify to say that they have met the healthy schools criteria within a Quality Assurance framework. Re-validation
Schools retain National Healthy Schools Status for three years after which they are required to re-validate through a process of self validation. Schools will receive a letter from the Healthy Schools Team prompting them to self review a year before their status is due to expire. Schools that do not re-validate will lose Healthy Schools Status and will be removed from the national database.
