Leicestershire healthy schools

Pause for Thought

Pause for thought...

The purpose of this page is simply to ask questions…to take time to reflect on your values, and how those values inform your practice.

What are the values that you would like your pupils to have? How do you model these values?

What are the most positive memories you have of your own schooling?

How would you like pupils to describe you?

What are the ways in which you let children and young people know that you value them?

What opportunities do less academic pupils have to raise their self-esteem?

How do you recognise children who may be having emotional difficulties?

Why do you think some children behave poorly? What do you think could help them?

Think of a pupil with challenging behaviour. How do you think they would say school makes them feel? What could make this more positive?

If you were going to have every bit of work you did monitored, would you find some types of feedback more helpful than others?

How does it feel to take a test knowing that most people will do better than you? What can we do to minimise stigmatisation.

Name ten things that school does that lowers self-esteem for some children. Are they necessary?
